When you book a visit to Kaipara Medical Centre, you might not always see a doctor – and that’s a good thing.

At Kaipara Medical Centre, we take a team-based approach to your care. That means you’ll have access to a wide range of health professionals, each with their own skills and expertise, working together to support your health and wellbeing.

This approach helps reduce wait times, ensures you get the right care at the right time, and allows for more personalised support – whether you need help managing a long-term condition, improving your mental wellbeing, or simply staying on top of everyday health needs.

Who you might see at your appointment

General Practitioner – Dr Tomos, Dr Kathryn, Dr Halima

  • A General Practitioner (GP) is a doctor who diagnoses and treats a wide range of health issues and helps manage your overall care. While you might first see a nurse or another team member, the GP steps in when a doctor’s expertise is needed or when a referral is required.

Nurse Practitioner – Beth, Sacha

  • A Nurse Practitioner is a nurse with years of extra training, who can assess, diagnose, and treat many health conditions – just like a doctor. They often work closely with patients to manage ongoing care and can prescribe medicine or refer to specialists when needed.

Community Prescriber - Jo
  • A Community Prescriber is a health professional based in your general practice who can prescribe medicines and help manage your treatment. They often work alongside doctors and nurses to support ongoing care, making sure you get the right medication and advice. They can also refer you to other health services when needed.

Registered Nurse – Jenna, Corinne, Courtney, Renee, Sarah, Sue, Hazel, Tori

  • A Registered Nurse (RN) provides hands-on care, such as checking vital signs, giving medications, and supporting people through illness or recovery. They work closely with patients and the wider healthcare team to make sure care is safe, respectful, and meets each person’s needs.

Health Improvement Practitioner – Louise

  • A Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) supports people with their mental and emotional wellbeing, often through short, focused sessions. They help with things like stress, anxiety, or lifestyle changes, and work alongside the rest of the healthcare team to support overall health.

Health Coach – Roz

  • A Health Coach works with people to set and reach their own health and wellbeing goals, like eating better, moving more, or managing stress. They focus on motivation and small, realistic steps to help build long-term healthy habits.

Clinical Pharmacist – Trish

  • A Clinical Pharmacist has additional training that allows them to work directly with patients in healthcare settings like general practices or hospitals. They focus on reviewing and managing medications, helping people understand their treatment, and making sure medicines are safe and working well – especially for those with long-term or complex conditions.

No matter who you see at your appointment, you can feel confident knowing that every member of our team is here to support your health and wellbeing. By working together, we make sure you get the right care, from the right person, at the right time. If you’re ever unsure about who to talk to, just ask – our team is always happy to help.
